Do you think the Voice UK judges are going to release a single together a la ‘Moves Like Jagger’? Look at that line-up… I can’t even comprehend how bad that would be.
Much like the other years I’ve done this, expect this to be super wrong. (Bold is who I think will win, italics is who I’d like to win).
It’s been kind of weird year in Oscar-bait terms. Like, there was no ‘King’s Speech’ or even a ‘Black Swan’ that were immediately like ‘Oh, that will do well.’ Apart from ‘Puss In Boots’ which immediately screamed ‘Oscar Worthy’. Obviously.
Best Picture:
War Horse, Moneyball, The Help (seriously?), The Artist, The Descendants, Midnight In Paris (really?), The Tree of Life, Hugo, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. (So Drive wasn’t nominated… which answers the question ‘What would happen if the only people in the world who don’t like Ryan Gosling were in charge of the Oscars?’)
Emmylou- First Aid Kit.
They’re so good.
At the end of the day… does it matter if she has a past? I’m not even the biggest fan of the girl but c’mon, did it ever seem like ‘Lana Del Rey’ as an idea was organic? Of course there has been some thought put into it, whether it was her or her label or both, does it really matter? There was probably as much thought put in as there was in the Strokes dressing like ’70s hipsters or the White Stripes’ mysterious back story or… I don’t want to break anyone’s heart here, but Lady Gaga’s real name is not Lady Gaga. Nothing comes fully formed and the fact that people are pissed that this girl who looks like she has stumbled out of a 1954 pin up girl calender didn’t actually stumble out of a 1954 pin-up girl calender is ridiculous.
No, her SNL performance was not good but only like, 5% of SNL performances are. Florence and the Machine was bad on that show. Coldplay, also not so hot. But as much as people want to discover something first they also want to prove that they’re over it first. HER ALBUM IS NOT EVEN OUT. EVERYONE CALM DOWN. …Says the boy typing in all caps.

Strange (Patsy Cline Cover)- Alex Turner.
I would like the next Arctic Monkeys album to sound like this, please. ‘Cause this is awesome. I know it’s a long shot but you’ve all seen the quiff he’s rocking at the minute, right? That can only mean it’s all gonna get a bit throwback-y.
