I was in Currys today (the start of many a fine anecdote) and ‘Complicated’ by Avril Lavigne starting playing… “This is much worse than I remember it being…” I mused quizzically.

It would have been very easy for Vampire Weekend to release a carbon-copy of their first album and go on soundtracking Gap ads while laughing all the way to the bank. Instead, they’ve made a far more interesting and assured album that still provided the hits that are soundtracking a Gap ad. Huzzah for everyone.
