Oscar Predictions, WHUT!

Much like the other years I’ve done this, expect this to be super wrong. (Bold is who I think will win, italics is who I’d like to win).

It’s been kind of weird year in Oscar-bait terms. Like, there was no ‘King’s Speech’ or even a ‘Black Swan’ that were immediately like ‘Oh, that will do well.’ Apart from ‘Puss In Boots’ which immediately screamed ‘Oscar Worthy’. Obviously.

Best Picture:

War Horse, Moneyball, The Help (seriously?), The Artist, The Descendants, Midnight In Paris (really?), The Tree of Life, Hugo, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. (So Drive wasn’t nominated… which answers the question ‘What would happen if the only people in the world who don’t like Ryan Gosling were in charge of the Oscars?’)

Best Director:

Alexander Payne- The Descendants, Martin Scorsese- Hugo, Woody Allen- Midnight In Paris, Terrence Malik- The Tree Of Life, Michel Hazanavicius- The Artist. (Here’s what I think will happen, if ‘The Tree Of Life’ doesn’t win best picture T-Mal will win this and vice versa for ‘The Artist’ and HazHaz. ALSO, ‘Midnight In Paris’ is fine but it’s baffling me that it’s been nominated both times here… is Woody Allen ill? Do the Oscar people know something we don’t?)

Best Actress:

Glenn Close- Albert Nobbs (y’know, that movie I’ve definitely heard of. Remember that scene with the hat!? Good times.), Meryl Streep- The Iron Lady, Michele Williams- My Week With Marilyn, Rooney Mara- The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Viola Davis- The Help. (I mean, the only reason I see ‘The Iron Lady’ existing is so Meryl Streep can get an Oscar from it but Michele Williams was really good in My Week With Marilyn… which would make her the only thing that was really good about ‘My Week With Marilyn’. HEY-OH!)

Best Actor:

George Clooney- The Descendants, Brad Pitt- Moneyball, Jean Dujardin- The Artist, Damian Bichir- A Better Life, Gary Oldman- Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Best Supporting Actor:

Jonah Hill- Moneyball, Kenneth Brannagh- My Week With Marilyn, Nick Nolte- Warrior, Christopher Plummer- Beginners, Max Von Sidow- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. (‘Jonah Hill: Academy Award Nominee’. I love that).

Best Supporting Actress:

Octavia Spencer- The Help, Berenice Bejo- The Artist,  Jessica Chastain- The Help, Melissa McCarthy- Bridesmaids, Janet McTeer- Albert Nobbs. (Seriously, did I miss something by not seeing The Help?)

Animated Feature Film:

Puss In Boots, Kung-Fu Panda 2, Rango, Chico & Rita, A Cat In Paris. (…Y’know the way I do a degree in animation? …I have seen one of these. Awkward.)

…Those are the only ones I really want to cover. In a perfect world I’d like the Muppets to win all the Oscars.
